Two Japanese children on skiis in the snow in 1930s Japan. This photo is from a found Japanese album that contains several traditional ama diver photos from the 1930s.
This is a vintage postcard by T. Hasegawa, postmarked Showa 14 (1939). It shows a Maiko (Apprentice Geisha) wearing a persimmon coloured Darari Obi (Dangling Sash) with a stylised Itomaki (Thread Spool) motif. Itomaki were wooden spools used for winding and unwinding the silk thread in looms for making traditional Japanese garments. Multi-coloured Itomaki were also considered to be a charm against evil spirits. Text and image via Blue Ruin 1 on Flickr
